Mukul Patel explores the encoding and decoding of meaning in various media including sound (especially in relation to space) and language (especially under constraint). His practice is often politically informed, and typically involves open processes, site-specificity, and the fashioning of unique technical solutions using commonplace technologies. He also composes music for leading artist-filmmakers  and contemporary choreographers and companies. In formal terms he has been strongly influenced by the work of French literary-mathematical group Oulipo and by 1960s-70s conceptual practice.

• Mukul studied Natural Sciences and Social & Political Sciences at King’s College, Cambridge, and currently expoloring mathematics at Imperial College, London. He is a continuing student of Indian art music, especially that of Ustad Ali Akbar Khan.
