SUFFOLK [UK]: PLACE 12: Taking the Waters
Aldeburgh Music's new cross-arts winter weekend - curated by Gareth Evans and celebrating the cultures of place across the UK – takes to the waters this year with a wide-ranging exploration of the meanings of the marine, the estuarine and the waterway in film, art, literature and thought. Starting from Roger Deakin’s modern classic on swimming, Waterlog, a remarkable assembly of acclaimed writers, artists, film-makers and thinkers will reflect on the paramount importance of the fluid spaces of the planet, in a unique location shaped so profoundly by the tide and its impacts.

LONDON: A|R|C Open Studio: Peter Grech
The Open Studio is an opportunity to meet informally with resident artists at ambient.space. For the month of January, we're welcoming UK based Peter GRECH (1963) as artist/researcher/collaborator in residence at ambient.space studios.
Developing his artistic practice out of work within the renewables and energy efficiency sectors, Grech considers perceptions of scale, risk and community, isolating fundamental issues in our relationships to others, to information and our environment. While ecological changes happen over decades (if not centuries or millennia), financial trades split nanoseconds, and political horizons are limited to five years – so how should the citizen calibrate their understanding? In addition to sharing work made during the residency, Grech will also show earlier video works filmed in Malta.
During the A|R|C residency, Grech is also collaborating with Luksch on YOURTOPIA, a 'sofa film festival' on living experiments. On the basis of a set of shared questions, they source and recommend films and publish notes on the festival's blog. Observations feed into Luksch's long-term artistic research and tactical fiction project FUNCTION CREEP (which examines and proposes experiments of sustainable living and intentional communities), as well as Grech's exploration of the planet's resources.
Free. All (ages) welcome.
