Unknown Territories [C4's Random Acts]
This three-minute film by Manu Luksch explores the contemporary art of pole dancing and its image in society through Elena Gibson, one of the genre's celebrated performers. The soundtrack includes Elena's accounts of cornerstone events in her relationship to pole dancing.
Elena Gibson trained professionally in classical ballet and has danced extensively for The National Ballet of Canada and the Bavarian State Opera House in Germany, as well as in numerous other theatre productions as a guest artist in both North America and Europe. As a pole performer and choreographer, she combines the elegance of classical ballet with extreme flexibility and acrobatic pole work; a combination that has won her awards at both national and international level, culminating in being crowned Miss Pole Dance World in 2005. She is founder of the Pole Dancing School London.
Random Acts is Channel 4's new arts strand, supporting and providing a platform for risk-taking and innovative arts content from both established artists and emerging talent. With an emphasis on television as art, rather than about art, Random Acts will programme content including, but not restricted to, spoken word, dance, animation, video art and music.
