mukul

Mukul Patel explores the encoding and decoding of meaning in various media including
sound (especially in relation to space) and language (especially under constraint). His
practice spans the fields of aesthetics and politics, and typically involves open processes,
site-specificity, and the fashioning of unique technical solutions using commonplace
technologies. He composes music for leading artist-filmmakers and contemporary choreographers and companies.
Patel studied Natural Sciences and Social & Political Sciences at King’s College, Cambridge. In formal terms he has been strongly influenced by the work of French literary-mathematical group Oulipo and by 1960s-70s conceptual practice. He is a continuing student of Indian art music, especially that of Ustad Ali Akbar Khan.
