MANCHESTER [UK] Asia Triennale Manchester 08

Mukul plays the opening party for the Asia Triennale Manchester 08, a new international festival featuring visual artists from Mainland China, Hong Kong, India, Korea, Singapore and Taiwan. Bring ears.

Asia Triennial Manchester (ATM08) opens 4 April, 5 April (public) and runs till 1 June 2008 in Manchester. Initiated and led by Shisha, in partnership with Castlefield Gallery, Chinese Arts Centre, Cornerhouse, The International 3, Manchester Art Gallery and Manchester Metropolitan University.

Opening party at the Cornerhouse, 21.00–00.00.

The Mistake is an adaptation of Joseph Beuys' MANIFEST, which he published
as postcard in 1985: "Der Fehler fängt schon an, wenn einer sich anschickt
Keilrahmen und Leinwand zu kaufen."

THE FACELESS PROJECT (2002–2008) interrogates the culture of surveillance by redeploying authentic CCTV images recorded in London, the most heavily surveilled city on Earth. These images are heavily inscribed by laws relating to privacy and freedom of information, and are in effect 'legal readymades'.

For the Lille 3000 festival, which has as its focus the Indian subcontinent, Mukul will create five idiosyncratic clocks around the city (in the metro and Lille-Flandres railway station, in the entrances to two stores, and along a pedestrianised street).

Please join Charles Merewether, Artistic Director and Curator of the 2006 Biennale of Sydney, as he opens Sean Cordeiro & Claire Healy's exhibition, Custom Living, featuring new sculptures and photo-records of ephemeral installations, and Austrian artist  Manu Luksch's sci-fi thriller faceless, made entirely from surveillance video footage, next Thursday, 1st of June, from 6 to 8pm.
